The Bridges of Paris

Over Time

Historical heritage of the capital, the Parisian bridges are symbols of wealth and diversity. Their architecture tell the story of how Paris has developed over the centuries.

There is today a thousand and one ways to cross the banks of the Seine, in fact, the city of one hundred villages has now 37 bridges, 49 gateways and 10 bridges for crossing the metro.

Their building materials, their vaults, and their columns differ according to each bridges and reflect trends of the time.

The Bir Hakeim Bridge, the Solferino Gateways, the Alexander III Bridge, are names which commemorates glorious victories and celebrate historical figures.

My dear readers, I shall just relate one little anecdote, it is about the construction of the Concorde Bridge. This bridge which was planned since 1725, was completed in 1790 thanks to stones belonging to Bastille fortress during the French Revolution.

Romanticism

Emblems of our cultural heritage, the Parisian Bridges are also a symbol of love and romance. Paris without its bridges crossing the river Seine could not be considered as the capital of love.

The inevitable padlocks in hand, lovers around the world come each year to go for a romantic walk on the Pont des Arts and seal their union forever.

If today, the Pont des Arts does not receive as many locks as before, lovers in Paris can still enjoy the many bridges of the Seine to "chain" their loving sentiments forever.

My kind readers, it is important for me to remind you that architecture is a beauty that should not be damaged.

One winter night, I did not need to hand a love lock to express my feelings. With Elena, we were only walking on the romantic bridge and enjoying the atmosphere and, the view, listening to the musicians practising.

See you soon!
