Michelangelo

The sculptor

My dear readers,

Who else than Michelangelo represent so well the Art of Sculpture?

Born In Caprese, Republic of Florence, 1475, he learned very young his job of stonecutter, which was, he admitted it, his major source of inspiration and his vocation as an artist. His vocation was so strong that he went against the will of his father and uncle (statesman) to focus on sculpture, painting and architecture… Good for him and for us!

His premature talent took him away. Indeed, he became close to the family of Medici and the papacy whose trusted him for many missions he always accepted to realize, and gave him all the necessary means to create his most incredible feat, still considered today as the most impressive works of Renaissance as David, Pièta, Moïse or the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling.

Mythic statue

What an artist… I wonder by which coincidence he obtained this name that he carry out so well depending on what he gave to Art!

It is a great pleasure that we can find few of its works in France! In Marseille, on the wonderful Prado’s avenue, we can perceive a copying of David’s statue that overhang the sea, on the corner of two mythic avenue of South of France.

In Paris, the Louvre museum welcome two of its original and unachieved works that shows off the scope of his talent: The Dying Slave and The Rebellious Slave. This two statues, on which we can agree they symbolize harmony and sensuality, stay subject at numerous interpretations and none of them seems to be eluded.

My dear readers, Michelange said one day “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free” and I see this sentence as wonderful as his Art.

See you soon !
